I assume you won't be taking any AI with you to Mars, then, Elon?
<<Musk said he was now kept awake at night by the threat posed by unregulated artificial intelligence, which he has previously warned could lead humanity into a third world war – another the reason to go to Mars.>>
@natecull @floatoverblow When it comes to A.I. at least, I dont think he's wrong. I was literally kept up for a lot of last night worrying about it. :/
@floatoverblow I mean, I agree with most of the things you say there... But also there are a dozen /other/ reasons to worry. It's pretty late, so I don't want to go into it now, but if you like I can give you an in depth break down tomorrow? :/
I will say, my fundamental worry isn't the A.I. itself, it's the question of how well we'll handle that kind of power, and what we'll do with it. :/
@Angle Sure, if you like. And yeah, that's usually the real problem hehe.
@floatoverblow @bob Well, it is a little about A.I. I don't think hostile A.I. of superintelligence are the big problems, but I wouldn't write then off either. :/
@Angle For a lot of reasons I'm not worried, at least not for the Kurzweil kind of rapture fantasy. It's based on a really broad stroke estimate for the complexity of the brain, an assumption that embodiment doesn't play a part in our development, and an assumption that learning is scalable just by throwing more processing power at it, which we know isn't the case from the extrema of human development. Good voice synthesis and the deepfake stuff worries me a little, but we've adapted to worse.
