How quickly people forgot that Gargron originally wasn't going to implement FTS because people worried about abuse potential...
@Elizafox Isn't it only implemented so you can search your own toots? Thats how I'd understood the situation. :/
"You'll be able to search for toots you've written, boosted, favourited or were mentioned in. The API does not change in any way to allow this, but since this is a computationally-heavy feature, it's optional for admins to setup and requires an ElasticSearch database."
The change is simple to allow for any kind of search.
@Angle This also means passive-aggressive boosting is more likely, because then you can boost someone's toot you don't even follow because you want to use it against them later, then search for it.
@Elizafox That at least is easy enough to resolve with blocks, bans and silences. The search functionality in general I dunno about. :/
