Hmm, so I've been thinking about moderation lately, and how we could probably take useful patterns for it from biological immune systems. Your immune system has much the same challenge - deal with all sorts of organisms in your body doing their various things, and sort out the bad actors from the good and neutral actors. It also has much the same failure modes - either it's not active enough and you get an infection, or it's too active and you get an autoimmune disease. Or it finds some other interesting failure mode, but lets keep thing simple for now. Are there any lessons we can learn from this for moderation? Patterns we can steal, and the like?

@Angle The body literally becomes an inhospitable place for the infections until they're gone, this is what fever does. Also, you might have noticed that bodies don't naturally recover from auto-immune diseases.
