Hey so would anyone he interested in hearing me toot about the game I'm working on right now? I don't want to spam people or anything, but if there's interest I'd love to go on about it.
Awesome! Well, to start with, I'm thinking I'm going to have it use Ascii graphics, though maybe with a fancy interface so you can zoom in and out, and the characters can be different sizes and I can use multiple of them to represent any given tile, etc, etc.
The game play will be kinda like fantasy Dungeon Crawler XCOM, hopefully using the GURPS Ruleset if SJ Games will let me. It'll be a fairly classic dungeon crawl - you show up at the dungeon with your dudes, try and kill all the monsters, survive the traps, and take their stuff.
I'm considering extending this to include travel to and from the dungeon, complete with random encounters, and maybe buying and building your own bases? I'm not sure yet.
I'm also deciding what I want the world to look like. I think they main play area will take place in whats basically been a constant battlefield for almost a hundred years, with conflict only now tapering off, leaving lots and lots of valuables to be had. First it was the site of a conflict between humans and orcs, and then there was a major undead black crusade, and also some fighting between elves and dwarves, and now finally people are resettling the region.
In terms of civilized races, I think I'm going to keep it to seven main ones, to start things off. Humans, Orcs, Dwarves, Elves, Hobbits, Goblins, and these four armed veiled middle easterny nomads who I don't have a name for yet. Most of those will be sticking to their stereotype pretty closely, but I'll be sure to shake things up some.
I might also include some monstrous races? I'm not sure about that though. I'd like to let people recruit driders and such, but we'll see how well that works out. I'm also not sure about adding magic - GURPS allows so much tactical depth even with just mundane weapons, magic seems almost unnecessary. XD

@Angle you'll need a different name for Hobbits, they are trademarked.
Technology in the game is generally going to be a fair bit better - think renaissance to early enlightenment, instead of middle ages. There will also be lots of divergent tech - elves use all sorts of strange biotech, for example, like this bioplastic resin that they use for lots of weapons, or these puffball grenades that release poison spores. Dwarves have lots of advanced machinery and very good metallurgy, and make significant use of explosives and guns. Humans have a pretty decent basis in tech all around, and trade with just about everyone. Orcs, Hobbits, and Goblins are all a little behind in terms of technology, but they have their own advantages.
