family is overrated
inheritance is the worst
I'm looking for a third thing to say that doesn't look obvious.
And I mean, I do like my family. I think I was pretty lucky, even if it isn't perfect. I like most people in it, most of the time.
But it's not because they are my family. It's because they are agreeable people. Good people even. Most of them anyway.
Family is important because it's the social environment you grow up with. I really don't think it should be celebrated like it is in our society. (or societies? Is there a society that doesn't do this? )
Family is a tool for control and a strange way of reaching immortality via legacy. Screw that.
It's control because you can make family accountable for the action of one of its member. So the family itself will make sure every member behave.
it's also the way people expect to make their "empire" survive them. They want you to success at what they did, they want you to raise children because they want their family to survive. It's not necessarily bad, but it is when the will of the child isn't respected.
And the worst part is family is always a figure of authority. So the weight of its will is always heavy.
And so inheritance is the worst thing because it enable some family to accumulate wealth and power at the expense of every one else.
"If I make money I should be able to give it to my children" is bullshit.
If you believe in equality of chances, this is the thing that screw every thing up.
Not really sure alternatives are needed in fact...
And the thing is : I won't screw the chance of my children by refusing them this help. I don't even have the right to do so, but even if I did, I wouldn't. Because if I can help them, I will. If they think the advantage is unfair and decide to refuse it, it will be their choice.
Personally, I won't refuse any advantage given. It's kind of a family philosophy you see? Stay safe, get what you can, try not to anger people... I'm not really proud of it, but hey, I'm alive and it's working out for me, I won't complain.
The thing is, this is not a personal issue. Inheritance shouldn't be allowed. There should be alternatives to it.
